It's true, I've become one of...them. The moment I considered cloth diapers I joked around about how crunchy granola I was becoming but I never in a million years thought I would even even give a second thought to consuming my placenta. Before you click away in a hurry thinking I've gone bonkers, hear me out.

Daddy Scrubs #MamasBabe

It seems like most of the time when a baby is on the way, most of the attention gets shifted to the mother and baby. When it comes to gift giving for the occasion you'll see a lot of gifts like outfits and accessories for the baby, lotions and comfort items for mom and things of the like. How often do we consider dad in these situations? I mean, other than a handshake, hug or card, there's really not a whole lot out there that is marketed to really make a dad feel special and included in this big event.
DaddyScrubs does just that.
DaddyScrubs specializes in celebrating Daddy status with their unique line of hospital scrubs, tees, hoodies, and hats. Of course, they offer other personalized gift giving items like ties, mugs and photo frames, but they also offer books. What I like most about the books is that they have a 'Bag 'o Books' that are mommy themed or daddy themed. I don't know about you, but I'm not sure there's anything sweeter than a Daddy reading to a little one.
The day this hoodie arrived, it happened to be Jake that checked the mail and opened the packages. Before I was even aware that this had arrived, it was out of the package and on Jake. It has a distressed, vintage look. The hoodie comes preshrunk and although we ordered a large since Jake is tall with long arms, the sleeves were still a little bit short and it did shrink a tad bit more after a couple washes.
Even with it being a little short in the sleeves, Jake still wears it non-stop. In fact, the first day we got it and he wore it in public he had gotten a compliment on it within 15 minutes of leaving our house. The girl went on to say that DaddyScrubs should offer an "I'm the Mommy" line. I say, let's leave something for the dads, us moms get enough as it is.
What's your go to gift for new a new daddy?

Mommy Mishaps
Last week I was presented with what is probably my most embarrassing parenting moment to date.
Both of my girls have been feeling a little sick lately. Natalia was having some bad coughs along with a seriously goopy nose as well as having an ear infection. Kaliah has been having some scary little coughing fits and after having it for a week, and already seeing the doctor once, we were back for a follow up so they could check her for Pertussis (whooping cough).
Just before I made the call to get her seen that morning, I let Jake know that I would be leaving Natalia home with him. I had taken them both out alone twice the week before and really I just wanted to get in and out and back home without the hassle of another kiddo. Just as I'm walking out the door, Natalia starts throwing a HUGE tantrum because she wants to leave the house too. Since Jake had a lot of packages to get out the door for our business he wanted me to take her so he could get a little more work done. As I'm already running a bit late at this point I really hesitate to take her. I can already see she has ponytail bed head from the night before. After all, what would people think if they see my kid looking this messy in public?
Since it's easier than arguing and doesn't make me even more late for the appointment, I have Jake strap her into the car seat and we are on our way.
Once I get to the doctor's office and start helping Natalia out of her car seat, I notice that she had gotten even messier on the drive over. She had gotten some candy somehow just as I was walking out the door and I obviously didn't even notice. After checking in at the counter, I take both girls into the bathroom to get Natalia's face and hands cleaned.
We head back to the waiting area and as she climbs onto the bench I wonder what diaper she has on--hoping it's a trusted one for going out and not a fitted or my worst guess, one that was already soaked. Imagine how mortified I was when I lift her dress only to see that she doesn't have a diaper on at all! I just know I probably turned at least 6 shades of red in that moment.
It pretty much set the tone for my entire day. I focused more on keeping her dress (of course she had to be wearing a dress) pulled down in the doctor's office than I did on answering their questions. I would be lying if I said Jake didn't get chewed out a little bit for it, but in the end I am able to laugh about it because I just know that there are others out there that have either had similar or worse things happen to them.
On that note, I decided to share my funny experience and to encourage you guys to submit your own funny parenting moments for the chance to be featured in next week's Mommy Mishaps. ;)

My Very First Cloth Diaper
Okay, so the title is actually a little bit misleading. I've talked before about how I got started with cloth diapers and what my first ones were. Plus, you guys probably get it by now that I really like to make my own cloth diaper and that I'm trying to branch in to making even more for my girls like toys and clothing. So really I'm talking about the very first "brand" cloth diaper that I got.
I frequented Diaper Swappers at one point to try to get my hands on some gently used diapers for a fraction of the cost to really get a feel for what I liked before putting a ton of money into building a stash. One lady that I bought a mixed box of inserts from tossed in a Fuzzibunz cloth diaper.
The elastic was already a bit relaxed, (hence why it was tossed in for free) yet it still managed to work for Natalia at 9 months and we used it as an overnight choice. The diaper was a size large and as funny as you might find it, I actually criss-crossed the wings to snap on the waist snaps on the opposite hip. It compensated for the relaxed elastic and smaller waist of my daughter.
I recently tried to replace the elastic on this diaper and after successfully replacing the back elastic I found myself really fighting to get to the leg elastic because it is attached to the diaper along the whole length of the elastic, rather than tacked at the ends like I do in mine. After trying for a couple hours to get out one leg, I gave up and tossed it. I know, I know, send me to cloth diaper jail, but I did it.
I've recently been thinking about trying a newer style Fuzzibunz diaper but due to my recent experience with prefolds and covers, as well as using those covers with my fitted, I'm not sure right now if I can spend the $20 on a pocket diaper. Than again, I have a hard time justifying buying pocket diapers no matter the price these days since Jake hates trying to stuff the inserts inside the pocket.

Have you tried a Fuzzibunz? Did you like it?
