Decorating

My love and I moved in together just before we turned 18. We had a small 2 bedroom apartment in Missouri. Starting completely from scratch and being so young, we had absolutely no money to buy nice things to furnish and decorate. I bought our bed at a yard sale for $100 with the two matching end tables. It was a queen size black wrought iron canopy bed frame. It completely dominated our small room. We had a dresser that had been Jake's and his mom helped me paint it black to match the bed frame. We really liked the idea of black and white with red. Somehow the pops of bright red I had envisioned just mostly turned into a mish mash of lots of heavy blacks and dark reds and not much white. Another thing I can notice looking at it now is that everything in our ENTIRE house had fallen into this rut. Our dishes were black, furniture was black, and curtains, bedding accessories were black. Then there were bits of red but like I mentioned already the dark almost maroon red so it just felt more like a cave.

We stored our stuff EVERYWHERE. The closets were full. We had cheap bookshelves from WalMart that were completely full. We even had those plastic carts that have the three drawers. We were uber classy.
Throw in a cheap television I had gotten as a gift and a cheap futon and you've got the idea of our place. The only nice pieces we had were these two beautiful end tables that belong to Jake's parents and a coffee table we bought from an actual furniture store. The coffee table was this lovely oval table. It had the wrought iron legs that were a bit fancy at the very bottom and was topped with a thick tempered glass top. The side tables had a lovely iron base and you inlaid stone tiles into the top.

Fast forward 2 years and a couple moves later. When we moved to Idaho we lived in a townhouse owned by Jake's parents. Also living there was Jake's expecting sister and her husband. Because we were only going to really have 1 room of our own we sold most of what we had originally decorated with. Goodbye giant bed and frame. Goodbye futon and end tables. Good bye fish tanks. Goodbye kitchen accessories and half my clothes. We sold my car and everything we wanted to bring back with us had to fit in our truck...bed cover on. When we initially got up here we used a bed and a small dresser that belonged to my sister in law and bought a desk from the local thrift store. About 6 months later we moved into a very, very small rental house of our own and we were able to bring a few things back on a trip to Missouri such as our coffee table. Add a huge desk, a bed with no frame, and a very sad couch from a thrift store. Also add TONs of baby stuff and imagine it all in a house that is about 500 square feet.

Now that we have a little lady I've really been rethinking every little thing that we have in our house. I want my house to take less time to have to clean so that I have more time to play with her. This means I want to have minimal furniture, no knick knacks, and just less for her to get into. I'm also taking a BIG step away from liking all the black and darks..(which at this point there was more of a mish mash of thrift store junk than anything).

For my bedroom I would really love a grey wall and to have everything else feel light and airy with whites, light greys, and yellows. Right now we have a bed with no frame, a 5 drawer black dresser, a 3 drawers white plastic cart thing, and a little sleeping area on the floor next to our bed for our bug. I have 1 photo on the wall. Yes, it's that sad. I'm planning to repaint the entire dresser white and spray paint the knobs yellow. I'm also thinking about making a quilt that is mostly white. That way if and when I get tired of the yellow I can still keep all my basic and just interchange the accents..Maybe I can find the perfect idea in one of the many quilting magazines my awesome mother in law just let me borrow..
Then maybe I will make a yellow throw to go over the end of the bed. I would also LOVE to make an upholstered headboard in grey or a light yellow with a long shelf above that to place some large photos on.

I have a few other ideas in the works for my other rooms, but I'll end with that for today. =)

Tired..

My poor little bug has been having quite the rough week. She got her 6 month shots and they made her sick. At her 4 month shots she had a 102 fever for a couple days, threw up and was a pretty sad girl.

It's such a hard thing to watch her go through because she really is the happiest baby I know. My little bug doesn't cry or fuss or ever make a scene and she just LOVE to go do things and be around people.

Already feeling less than fantsastic, Thursday night her first little tooth made it's appearance. She didn't sleep very well that night at all. We had tried to give her Oragel but it actually made her throw up and it was so terrible to watch and to not be able to help her. We have even been having to disguise the baby Tylenol in her bottle or she won't take that either and she'll again throw up.

As if that wasn't hard enough on her, yesterday her second tooth stated coming in.

So, needless to say, we've been spending more time cuddling and trying to comfort than crafting..

It's Been A While..

So sorry for the recent absence! My little one hasn't been responding well from her recent shots so it's been a little slow around here with the crafting. =(

I have some pillow covers I recently made to show you as well as the adorable little dress I made for my ladybug's first 4th of July. (So keep tuned for those in the near future.)
