--When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
When I was younger I always wanted to be a fashion designer. I don't really know what sparked the interest but I was convinced for a long time that I would be doing that when I got older. I took a class in summer school once ( I believe I was around the 4th grade ago) on fashion design throughout the ages. It was interesting and involved a lot of studying patterns and trends of the times, but at the very end we got to have a fashion show. I can't even tell you now what I ended up doing but I can guarantee it was nothing fancy.
As I got a little older, I got more into sewing by altering clothing I already had. Okay, I've always been pretty much the skinniest person in my friend circle. They would buy new clothing skin tight, wear it once, wash and shrink. I somehow ended up with a lot of this stuff and still found myself needing things to be altered smaller. It was an easy way to make things actually fit. Can you believe I never tried any sewing more complex than taking in a side seam until I was 18!
Although I'm past the delusions that I would ever be a fashion designer, I am starting tog et into sewing clothing for my little girl. Who knows, maybe my dream of making her wardrobe (and some of mine) will become a reality this summer. =)
So, what did you want to be?

That's awesome. Sewing is a good skill to have. It saves SO much money. I'm not wonderful at it, but I enjoy it, and I get satisfaction out of completing a project.
ReplyDeleteWOW, you don't meet to many young girls that know how to sew. I recently at 29 just learned. It is an awesome skill to have and to know. I look forward to seeing some of your creations.
