Fall in Love with Handmade {Sponsor Spotlight} Lil' Montner

As part of our Fall in Love with Handmade event that starts in just a couple days, I get to show off this lovely set of mama cloth to you all from Lil' Montner. The name Lil' Montner comes from wahm Jennifer saying this instead of Monster when she was younger, how cute is that? She inevitably started calling her own son that and decided to take the name into her business as well. I love when business names are derived from children, it makes them more interesting and memorable. =)

cloth pads
These actually came right after my cycle and for a change I was pretty excited for the next one to come around sos that I could try them out. As luck would have it, I actually found out I was pregnant on my next cycle so I won't even get a chance to use them until probably May of next year or so. (Since I'll be using postpartum mama cloth for the first month or so.)

cloth padsThis is a set of three matching mama cloth. There is a cute outer cotton print, hidden layer of PUL, and a cotton velour top fabric which is closest to your skin. There's also two layers of hemp sewn into the cotton velour to add absorbency. I like that she uses hemp rather than other fabric choices because not only is it more absorbent meaning you can use less layers and still keep the pad thin, but it's also anti-microbial.

They are even meant to be able to fold up when on the go so you can toss in a small wet bag. I mean, when extra features like that make using mama cloth every bit as convenient as store bought pads or tampons, what excuse can you have left for not making the switch?

I'm also super excited because Lil Montner doesn't just make mama cloth, she makes hybrid fitted diapers, OS pocket diaper, OS fitted nighttime diapers and is even going to begin testing some postpartum mama cloth. Probably most excited about the pp testing. ;) Follow on Facebook to keep updated with awesome stocking and deals!

Be sure to stay tuned for your chance to win a set of 3 mama cloth along with 1 overnight pad in the Fall in Love with Handmade Hop starting September 1st!

  1. Somehow I have a mental block about using cloth for this. I have used cloth diapers on all three of my kids, but somehow, I don't know. this grosses me out, while cloth diapers are just a way of life. maybe someday I will get past the yuck factor.

  6. I like that they're hemp. Another benefit is hemp is renewable!

  7. I have never tried anything like this. Much like Rachel above, I have a mental block about reusable pads like this. However, your review makes them sound not so bad at all, I love all the great features. I'm not sure I could completely get to the point of comfort using these, but I'm willing to be open-minded!

  9. These are beautiful and I am ready to try mama cloth for my next cycle. I can't believe it just occured to me to try reusable pads. I have been cloth diapering my son for over a year now!

  10. I know at one time, this is all women had to use. They made their own back then and washed them and hung them out on the line. I don't think they would be practical for working women at all. Maybe you could use them if your cycle hit sometime during the weekend.

    1. If you have a small wet bag, these would totally be doable for working women. the wet bag is not only waterproof, but holds in any smell that may accumulate. Not to mention, that when folded and snapped it completely contains any smell at all and then to be in the wet bag on top of that, there is no giveaway to others!

  13. This is a great article and appreciate all your hard work you put into it and this blog. However, on a personal note there is NOTHING that will get me to use disposable or reusable pads. Kudos for those who can and do. Women's menstrual period has a STRONG odor. I can only imagine what I would be smelling or would fear others would be smelling around me.

    1. I used to be a tampon user only as well. I actually noticed there was more of an odor using them than there is with cloth--with which I haven't noticed any smell at all. There's also no chemicals used in the making of cloth pads. The chemicals used to help with odor, absorbency and the like that is in tampons actually causes a hormonal imbalance and causes cramps to be more painful. Since I made the switch I haven't had any cycle cramps, which is a big deal for me because as a teenager my mother had to take me to the hospital to get prescriptions to control the cramping pains.

  14. I like many others have reservations about using mama cloth. It does gross me out, but if it's better for my body, my daughters body (she will begin using them soon) and the environment, I'm in to try!!!

  18. I know my friend's mother from holland used to use knitted pads and reuse them.. I am not sure I would want to carry around used ones in my purse (even in a ziplock) I would be willing to try them at night, and when I am home though..not sure I would be keen on rinsing them or throwing them into the wash with other clothing.. and I am sure my 3 boys at home would not appreciate folding them.. lol, I over analyse i know hahaha..on the positive side, disposable pads give me discomfort and I feel rashed at times.. i have sensitive skin, and when they fold and stick to you and you have to tear them off, it is no fun at all lol

Also, I don't pre-rinse mine. They either get tossed in with my cloth diaper laundry or with a load of towels and come clean every time. There's also no chemicals used in the making of cloth pads. 31. I'm not a fan of pads (I'm actually planning on getting a Luna cup when I get my cycle back) but these would be great to give to my daughter. I'd love to introduce her to re-usable pads. Especially since she uses A LOT of the disposable ones. I'm having visions of major money savings. :)
