Julie over at My Cloth Diaper Stash started this awesome Cloth Diaper 101 blog hop and I couldn't wait to jump on board. So, along with other bloggers, I'm writing this week on my favorite cloth diaper. You know, for me I think I have a favorite style rather than a specific favorite single diaper. I have three specific diapers that all could easily be dubbed the favorite and when I really look at them closer, I love them all for the same reasons and they are essentially the same style of diaper. Hybrids.
Don't know what a hybrid cloth diaper is? Well, mine have a knit outer layer, a hidden layer of fleece, and an inner layer of soft cotton velour. They're called a hybrid because of the hidden layer of fleece which acts as a moisture repellent and pushes wetness back into the soaker. However, unlike PUL waterproof material, the fleece is breathable. Since Natalia is a heavy wetter, we were having some issues with PUL diapers not allowing enough airflow and her getting rashes as a result so hybrids have been an amazing alternative.
Any of these babies look familiar? You may remember the Jack Skellington one from my Binky D Diapers review. The charcoal striped diaper was featured more recently in last month's Green Christmas giveaway and is from Snug Bug Diapers. The one on the right you may have seen in the little photos shoot I did for Natalia turning two and I'm planning to write a review of it in the near future. It's the Tinsel diaper from Boogie Bear Creations which is a name that is pretty common in this house as it's now the fourth Boogie Bear we own. ;)
Can you understand now how I couldn't possibly choose one single favorite diaper? I love these because they have longer wings than my other diapers. They each feature a fold down rise and a wider crotch area. Plus, they all have soakers that hold an amazing amount of pee and the Jack and Tinsel even have additional booster soakers that snap in for added absorbency.
I'm sure that when our new baby comes I may fall in love with another style, or heck maybe oven a specific diaper by then, but for our toddler, this is our current favorite and I don't see them going away until she's potty trained, at which time, her little sister will get to show them off. ;)

When I cloth diapered I only used BumGenius AIO. I did like them and didn't have any problems, but I would venture out and try different stuff, like these, if I had to do it again!
ReplyDeleteI have one BG AIO that I won and we love it too. I just find that these work better for longer wear and still allowing for some airflow.
DeleteI have wanted to try the hybrid fitteds but haven't since my son is 26 months and I haven't been buying many diapers over the past few months. Of I ever have another they're definitely on my list.
ReplyDeleteI can't store all of this info in my tiny brain, but if we get a foster child eventually that is little I will have to revisit to relearn!
ReplyDeleteI had a hard time picking too! I am jealous of all of those diapers...they look so cute and comfy!
ReplyDeleteThis was a really interesting read for me. I've always considered hybrid diapers to be a disposable/cloth combination, but I'd never thought of applying the term to diapers made with multi-layers of different fabric materials. I'm assuming you still need a cover over these like other fitteds?
ReplyDeleteI don't use covers with these at all and they will still go 6-8 hours if you wanted. The only downside I've noticed to any diaper or cover that has fleece is that if you put clothing on your child that's too tight it can cause compression leaking or dampness and they won't last as long. Even then it's 3+ hours.
DeleteI love, love, LOVE my hybrids!
ReplyDeletei love these Kass !! i really want to try a hybrid especially the wind pro ones :)
ReplyDeleteThank you!!! I loved all the info about hybrids. Now to find a pattern and make some :)
ReplyDeleteThis diaper is very thin but it absorbs really well. It beats Pampers, Huggies and Costco brand. My son's diaper rash is gone after using this.
